Welcome to the SECOND edition of Wayman's Pilot Industry Update. We hope to bring you the latest information about the aviation industry, airlines, pilot hiring in South Florida and internationally.

  5. Boeing’s 2022 Pilot and Technician Outlook (PTO) projects that 602,000 new pilots, 610,000 new maintenance technicians, and 899,000 new cabin crew members will be needed to fly and maintain the global commercial aviation fleet over the next 20 years.

 1. Opinion: The pilot shortage is about to get a lot worse.

With too few pilots to meet demand, the industry is likely to be in store for even higher airfares, more reductions in schedules and routes, and a contraction of the nation's regional airline network. And these disruptions could persist for a decade.

     2. Republicans Propose Raising Commercial Pilots' Mandatory Retirement Age

    A group of Republicans in Congress on Monday proposed legislation to raise the mandatory commercial pilot retirement age to 67 from 65, in a bid to address an airline industry staff shortage.

 3. Small airports continue to lose regional service amid U.S. pilot shortage

    In a June study, the Regional Airline Association (RAA) reported that 188 communities had lost at least 25% of their airline service from Q1 2019 to Q2 2022, what’s more, 106 communities lost over 25% of their airline service in the same time period.

 5. JetBlue announces a deal to buy Spirit Airlines. Fares could surge

  JetBlue Airways on Thursday announced it would purchase Spirit Airlines, a combination that would create America's fifth-largest airline.
